First conditional

Change the verbs in the following sentences into the correct form.

Remember that:

  • we use the First Conditional to talk about future events that are likely to happen.
  • FORM:   If   +   Present form   +  Future form
  • Note: Future forms include the future simple, future continuous, future perfect simple and future perfect continuous. Examples. 
    • If they don't study, they will fail the exam.
    • If my boyfriend doesn't call me, I'm going to call him.
    • If he doesn't get the job, he will have done all this work for nothing.
    • If we don't finish the course this year, we will have been studying for ages.
  • The if-clause may come first or second in a statement; this clause will be separated from the result clause by a comma (,). If the result clause, on the contrary, comes first no comma is needed.
  1. If you (go) to see him now, he (work) .
  2. If you (not/speak)  clearly, he (not can) understand.
  3. He (can)  come if the meeting (take) place on a Friday.
  4. I (call) you  if I (need) any help.
  5. If the weather (be) sunny, we (bring) our umbrellas for nothing.
  6. She (just/must) take a taxi if she (miss) the train.
  7. If you (not/pass) the examination,   you (take) it again?
  8. We (lose) our way if we (not/keep) to the main road.
