1. Explanation:
We use there is for singular and there are for plural.
EXAMPLES:
- There is one board in the classroom.
- There are three windows in the classroom.
- There is a spider in the garden.
- There are many people at the supermarket.
2. Contraction:
- There's a good movie on the cinema.
- There's only one apple left in the fridge.
You cannot contract there are.
- There are nine birds on the roof.
- There are only 2 days until my birthday.
3. Negative forms:
- There's not = There isn't
- There are not = There aren't
You can use both options
4. Questions:
To form a question we place is / are in front of there.
For example:
- Is there a security guard in the supermarket? - No, there isn't.
- Are there any trees in the park? - Yes, there are.
- Is there a salesperson in the shop? - Yes, there is.
- Are there any apples in the kitchen? - No, there aren't.
